Job Description Summary

Highly seasoned professional with specialized skills/knowledge that is recognized across the organization for their expertise. Demonstrated potential to take on expanded responsibilities. This position is a direct report of the Business Unit Controller and is located in Boston, MA. This position will have two direct reports. This position will be a leadership role whose team focus, representing the Controllers Organization, will be on the Company’s General Investment Account activities and related legal entities as follows:

  • Provide sound financial advice to the Investment Management business unit, anticipating the financial statement impact of changes in the business environment and making recommendations to ensure appropriate and beneficial accounting treatment.

  • Proactively identify financial reporting risks and opportunities within the Investment Management business unit activities and translate that into decision-useful improvement recommendations.

  • Use increasing insight to identify and implement improvements that increase the business value and efficiency of the work performed. Initiate and/or oversee increasingly complex projects and continuous improvement activities.

  • Understand how data flow through the financial systems to the accounting function, planning appropriately for changes and prioritizing and implementing enhancements.

  • Proactively identifies financial reporting risks and opportunities within the underlying business unit activities and translates that into decision-useful improvement recommendations.

  • Support other strategic initiatives and transactions that impact the Investment Management business unitIn collaboration with the other teams in the Controllers Organization:

  • Communicate the financial reports and information to key stakeholders

  • Guide stakeholders in working on highly complex accounting matters, including new standard implementation, and developing processes to address them, ensuring any issues are communicated appropriately to senior management.

  • Develop, document, and assure adherence to an internal control framework that ensures accurate and timely financial reporting. Make recommendations to continuously improve the overall control environment.

The investment controller will be responsible for oversight over and communication of the financial reporting and controls residing within the Investment Management business unit and related legal entities. They will be responsible for reviewing the sign off on the financial reporting results by the Investment Management business units and legal entities, understanding those results, ensuring that all reporting is accurate and reliable for use in the Company’s broader financial reporting process.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree (Accounting or Finance) is required; advanced degree preferred.

  • CPA

  • Minimum of 8 years of accounting or finance experience; strong preference for public accounting (Big 4) experience.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to execute thoroughly in a fast-paced work environment, adapting quickly to changing conditions to achieve results.

  • Must possess the ability to collaborate with peers across the organization to gain support for ideas and execute on projects that deliver value to customers.

  • Comfortable leading meetings, making strategic recommendations to senior management and giving presentations to increasingly large audiences.

  • Possesses an advanced understanding of accounting principles.
