Under direct supervision, responsible for performing routine research and analysis to support business operations. Determine best practices and suggest how to improve current practices. Assist in the development of recommendations to solve problems and issues related to business operations. Additionally may prepare presentations to report findings.


The Business Operations Specialist will provide operational support of the Roll-In and IRA Sales Teams including associated reporting, procedural / workflow maintenance, and problem resolution. This position is responsible for all aspects of the business submission process, while promoting daily operational awareness of sales goals and queue volumes. The incumbent is responsible for identifying and driving increased efficiencies by leveraging available system platforms. The Business Operations Specialist is responsible for solidifying business relationships and improving transparency of the operations process for internal and external business partners.

  • Handle all aspects IRA new business submission process

  • Assign opportunities to sales teams

  • Perform complex research and resolution tasks

  • Handle team and department reporting

  • Determine best practices and suggest how to improve current processes

  • Assist Sales Teams with administrative tasks

  • Draft and maintain procedures for the team

  • Perform data reconciliation projects as needed


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • 3-5 years Retirement Services / Financial Services experience

  • Strong knowledge of IRA product rule (general and specific to MassMutual)

  • Series 6 within 60 days of hire

  • Solid understanding of Workplace Solutions Operations

  • Ability to think and act independently in a fast paced, complex regulatory environment

  • Ability to balance business needs and actively assess risk factors pertaining to Workplace Solutions Operations

  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to navigate through complex, time sensitive and escalated cases while providing win/win solutions to satisfy all stakeholders

  • Superior time management skills required

  • Strategic thinking capabilities in order to promote and drive process improvements across the organization and reduce non value added activities

  • Proven customer service skills. Must demonstrate customer centric thinking as well as exceptional relationship building and change management skills

  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future
