The Business Consultant with in Life New Business & Underwriting will be expected to formulate and define business and/or systems scope and objectives based on both user needs and a good understanding of applicable industry requirements. Under general supervision, elicit, analyze, validate and document detailed business, organizational, operational, and/or system requirements from tactical and strategic projects and initiatives. Responsible for understanding the needs of business partners and stakeholders to ensure that solutions to business and/or system problems and opportunities are aligned to the needs of the organization. Devise or modify procedures to solve moderately complex problems, which include analysis of business and user needs, documentation of requirements, and translating into proper business and/or system requirements. Communicates, verifies and gains approval of the requirements from stakeholders. Provides input to various other project documents such as project plans, estimates, readiness, or, defect management.
Provides knowledge and expertise in New Business & Underwriting products for projects, including providing input into process flows, business requirements, and/or test case scenarios
Applies a change management process and tools to create a strategy to support adoption of the changes required by a project or initiative
Leads business analysis across multiple parallel initiatives
Facilitate and drive requirements gathering sessions
Collaborate with business and system experts
Creates the detailed business process flows for new capability and documentation to support changes
Contributes to the business short-and long-term planning sessions and provides direction to ensure understanding of business goals and direction
Provides outstanding customer service to our internal and external customers
Seasoned individual capable of handling broad scope projects that have short to medium-term focus
Comfortable working with numerous stakeholders to drive towards a common goal
Collaboration and influencing without authority are required skill sets for success
Capable of applying knowledge to handle all but the most complex problems independently
Anticipates change and directs or redirects efforts
Strong organizational, communication (written and verbal), facilitation, and time management skills are essential
Looks for and finds ways to improve operations - strong critical thinking and analysis skills
Proficient interpersonal, negotiation and solicitation skills
Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple activities simultaneously
Strong personal commitment and motivation
Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future
Candidate should have 3-4 years of experience as a business consultant, or similar role, working on project teams to deliver business value
Works with guidance on more complex projects
Proven track record of documenting project requirements in a manner that ensures clean hand-offs to other project team members
Awareness of MassMutual business processes and organizational structure
Long-term focus on growth of own skillset / effectiveness and supports others in doing the same
Excellent interpersonal skills; team player; self-motivated; patient demeanor; approachable style
Mentoring and coaching skills
Promote respect, and recognize individual performance and accomplishments of team members
