Position Summary:

Viewed as a subject matter expert in the Disability Income (DI) claims financial field. Responsible for conducting and documenting the financial analysis for Disability Income Claims (New Business). Develop and maintain policies, procedures, guidelines for effective financial claim handling for Disability Income. Position may provide functional advice or training to disability claim examiners.

Responsibilities:

Full-time CPA in the role as a DI claims Financial Consultant (FC) consideration is/should be given to:

  • To support/compliment the development of internal resources through training/guidance of one, or more CEs to perform monthly financial monthly income and business overhead expense calculations and provide guidance in the adjudication of disability buy-sell claims

  • Annual tax return reconciliations

  • Provide financial support for complex files

  • Provide DI Claim financial support for new product development

  • Hold "walk in" consultation meetings with claims staff regarding disability claims, capturing essential elements of a file

  • Ensures quality investigations of financial information utilizing the resources available

  • Maintains knowledge and skills regarding financial regulations and communicates/educates claims staff in one on one meetings or groups

  • Communicates verbally and in writing with customers other appropriate contacts in a professional and effective manner, resolving discrepancies and clarifying financial information.

  • Participates in triage and multi-disciplinary roundtable sessions to provide expertise on financial related issues

  • Maintains CPA license

  • Conducts in-service training for claims staff on various financial scenarios or software tools required

  • Participates in industry meetings

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Minimum 3 years of public accounting experience in small to medium sized firm

  • Small business client base

  • Heavy emphasis on personal and business tax return preparation

  • Preparation of monthly/quarterly financial statements

  • Strong Excel spreadsheet use Strong written and oral communication abilities

  • Ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial oriented individuals

  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future

Preferred Requirements:

  • CPA Certification (Preferred)

  • Financial training

  • Experience in providing guidance to staff accountants or bookkeepers

  • Experience with analysis and financial integration of CPT/CDT codes

  • Forensic accounting experience

  • Experience with QuickBooks

  • Experience in disability insurance business
