The Retiree Middle Market team is seeking a Product Development and Underwriting Strategy expert to focus on developing, launching and scaling innovative products that will meet the needs of the Retiree Middle Market. This individual will have diverse expertise in consumer experience, product design and underwriting risk strategy for a direct to consumer business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for developing and delivering Product Design, Pricing Strategy and Specifications of all RMM products. Ensures products can be advertised, sold through direct distribution and serviced directly from the brand to consumer.

  • Act as Strategy Lead during product launch to ensure strategy and business impact goals are met; develop phased approach to meet critical business requirements and marketing needs while developing optimization requirements for future phases.

  • Oversees all aspects of RMM Underwriting Strategy; accountable for RMM Underwriting rules and standards to ensure business is taking on appropriate risks and achieving profitability, quality, growth and diversification – securing and retaining favorable new business and book of business.

  • Stays abreast of behavioral economic principles, medical guidelines, legislative and compliance processes to develop and manage risk related application questions – health and financial – to ensure the appropriate risks are placed in the appropriate rate classes of products.

  • RMM representative to set coinsurance and reinsurance strategy and partner with internal teams to negotiate reinsurance agreements.

  • Participates as member of the management team to develop business objectives and drive critical results. Mentor and/or direct less experienced managers or employees. Identify developmental strengths and weaknesses of assigned areas and ensures necessary programs, and resources are made available to support development needs.

  • This role is primarily focused on life insurance with the opportunity to explore additional financial products and innovative solutions


  • 8 years of experience in consumer experience, product design and/or underwriting strategy – including driving initiatives from concept to execution and evaluation.

  • 5 years of direct and in-direct management experience.

  • Must have strong proven experience delivering consumer facing products with high quality consumer experience, adoption and utilization.

  • Proven ability to turn complex product design issues into clean, intuitive solutions.

  • Ability to drive results through delivering clear strategies, gaining buy-in from multiple levels of the organization and navigating through complex / matrix organization with multiple partner relationships.

  • Experience in the financial services/insurance industry preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – including material development, presentations and business proposals.

  • Relationship management and interpersonal skills required.

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master’s degree or relevant experience preferred.
